THE MOMENTUM
Women face some of the biggest societal issues today, including depression, addiction, domestic violence and eating disorders. Even more troubling, the individual challenges women face daily are symptomatic of systemic power imbalances working in tandem.
Even though scientific evidence suggests being part of a sporting activity improves health & well-being, 2 out of 5 women are holding themselves back from playing sport because they feel embarrassed or intimidated (VicHealth). The inspiring Strong Women documentary and its Strong Sisters movement couldn't be more timely in its aim to motivate women and girls to reach their fullest potential by engaging in physical activity and strengthening their body & mind.
COVID-19 and its subsequent lockdowns have negatively impacted women's exercising habits. In Victoria, Australia, Women’s physical activity levels were more severely impacted than men’s, with half of Victorian women exercising less than before Coronavirus and 3 in 4 women stopping sport altogether (VicHealth). Life as we know it has changed and being active is more important than ever, and STRONG SISTERS movement is timely reminder of this in its motivational message.
